Portable Drafting Table: Components and Structure

A top, a shelf and a base are the three main parts of a portable drafting table. The materials are so chosen that the table is as light weight and portable as possible. These may be light weight wood or light weight other materials. The construction of the table is such k one can fix the components up and unfasten them in a jiffy. This does not require much effort either. The assembly and disassembly of the table is so designed that no tools like screwdrivers etc. are required. The three components of the table snugly fit into each other giving rise to the structure used as the drafting table. The table, when folded also has a handle for transportation.

This allows the art and drafting students to easily set up the table wherever they want. This portable drafting table also increases the ease of transportation. In order to maximize its portability, this table has a three panel base which surrounds the shelf part of the table. The top, which has grooves along its side, can easily be separated. The grooves are so made that they fit in with the side panels of the base. This allows the table to be easily folded and because of its light weight it can easily be carried around.

When it comes to disassembly of the table, one just needs to take the top off the base and then pull the shelf out. The side panels of the base are then aligned along the central base panel. The top and shelf of the table have carrying handles with a hand hole present on the base of the table. This provides grip while shifting the folded table. Now coming to the assembly of the table, try the vice versa approach. Firstly, unfold the base and straighten it out. Insert shelf part of the table between the two side panels. And then lastly, place the top on the shelf of the portable drafting table.

The base is basically a three paneled structure consisting of one central panel and two side panels. The central panel is shaped like an elongated rectangle and the side panels are trapezoidal. Each panel has four sides. There is a notch at the top side of the two side panels and the back edge of both the side panels is attached to the central panel.

The side panels can be rotated on the central panel with the help of attachments. This helps in forming the base for the straightened out shelf. The attachments run for the entire vertical length of the central panel are present on the two sides, where the side panels are attached. These allow the limitation of the angular motion o the side panels.

The top of the drafting table has a stretched out rectangular shape. It has a number of rails and blocks on the underside for fastening of the top to the shelf when the table is assembled. The combination of the rails and blocks fasten the top to the side panels of the shelf. Such a table is useful for people who need to transfer their work board to different places. It allows the user to change the scenery of their work place any time they feel like they need a change. Also, this table is helpful to those who need to travel a lot when it comes to their work. It is all-in-all a very convenient drafting table
